Srinagar, Jan 13: In a strategic move to assess the effectiveness of the counter-infiltration grid, the Northern Army Commander, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, visited forward battalions along the Machial sector in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.
Accompanied by Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps, and the GOC of the Kupwara-based Vajr Division, the high-ranking officials conducted a comprehensive review of the prevailing situation.
During the visit, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi engaged with troops and personnel from Rashtriya Rifles, J&K Police, BSF, and BRO, expressing appreciation for their unwavering vigilance and significant contributions to maintaining lasting peace in the region.
An Army spokesman highlighted the focus on operational excellence and the necessity to evaluate the Counter Infiltration Grid. Lt Gen Dwivedi, along with the Chinar Corps Commander and GOC Vajr Division, visited forward battalions in the Machhal Sector along the Line of Control (LoC).
“The Army Commander engaged with the troops and personnel of Rashtriya Rifles, J&K Police, BSF & BRO, commending them for their persistent vigilance and compelling contribution to maintaining lasting peace in the region,” stated the spokesman.
The region has experienced little to no snowfall on the LoC this year, and the reduced snow cover along the border raises concerns about increased chances of infiltration.
In the evening, the Army Commander proceeded to the Headquarters of Victor Force for a comprehensive Joint Security Review. Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi expressed appreciation for the seamless synergy in operations, joint combat readiness, counter-terrorism efforts, and soldier-citizen connect.
Commending officers from Victor Force, Kilo Force, Dagger Division, and Vajra Divisions, as well as CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other intelligence agencies, Lt Gen Dwivedi directed them to remain resolute in their commitment to preserving peace and tranquillity in the region.
Last week, Lt. Gen Dwivedi had applauded seamless collaboration among security forces, police, and civil agencies. The meeting was attended by DGP RR Swain, ADG Law & Order Vijay Kumar, ADG Anand Jain, and IG CRPF Sanjeev Khirwar.
