Srinagar, Jan 03: Stressing that the process of restoring peace in Jammu and Kashmir is going on with all the efforts, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah on Friday said that attempts to stabilise normalcy are being made as the security challenges still persist.
Speaking to the media here, Abdullah said that sporadic incidents of violence continue to take place, but the government is working towards ensuring lasting peace. “Normalcy has not been fully restored in Jammu and Kashmir even today. It is a process, and we will have to see how things unfold in the coming days,” he said.
His remarks come a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that the abrogation of Article 370 ended terrorism in Kashmir. However, Abdullah chose not to comment directly on Shah’s statement.
Addressing speculation that the name of Jammu and Kashmir could be changed to “Kashyap,” Abdullah dismissed the rumors. “There is no such proposal, and it cannot happen without the consent of the J&K government,” he clarified.
With heavy snowfall expected in the coming days, Abdullah assured that the administration is ready to handle any disruptions. “We have held multiple meetings and will ensure there are no lapses like before,” he stated.
Speaking over the issue of poor electricity supply, Abdullah claimed that Kashmir has witnessed better power availability this year compared to previous winters.
Responding to the concerns expressed by residents over erratic power schedule, , Omar Abdullah assured that the government is committed to addressing the issue. “We will make every effort to provide electricity as per schedule,” he reiterated.
Pertinently, despite the Chief Minister’s claims, residents continue to complain about frequent unscheduled power cuts. Many consumers argue that despite paying monthly electricity bills, they are not receiving power as per the schedule.
Several residents have expressed anger over the irregular electricity supply, particularly during the severe cold. “We are paying our bills regularly, yet we face prolonged power cuts, making daily life difficult in this freezing weather,”said consumers.
