Kulgam, Dec 29: The tehsil administration in Kulgam has extended assistance to nomadic families living in tents and makeshift sheds for the second consecutive day after heavy snowfall occurred in the district, which recorded nearly two feet of snow.
Bilal Ahmad, Tehsildar Kulgam, said that on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, the administration identified around 30 nomadic families residing across the tehsil. In response to the harsh weather and dropping temperatures, 10 families were relocated to safer locations, while aid was provided to others.
“We shifted 10 families from various locations to two schools in Modergam and Checkpora, ensuring proper shelter. Besides, food supplies such as rice and flour were distributed to support them during this challenging time,” Ahmad said.
He said that the administration also provided blankets to several families to help them combat the extreme cold.
A 24-hour control room has been set up at the district headquarters, and tehsil-level contact numbers have been shared for addressing grievances promptly. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of these families,” the Tehsildar added.
