Kulgam, April 29: The Kulgam administration on Monday morning relocated nomadic families from the vulnerable River Veshow banks to safer locations amidst continuous rainfall.
Bilal Ahmad, Tehsildar Kulgam, told Rising Kashmir that the revenue team, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kulgam swiftly moved to assist the nomadic families along the Veshow river banks.
He said that some of them have been temporarily housed in safer accommodations until weather conditions improve.
“These nomadic families residing along Vishow Nallah towards Panipora, Kulgam, Chellan, and Ashmuji have been relocated to secure areas in view of bad weather forecast,” he said.
He said that the administration is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of these nomadic families, particularly with the rising water levels in the Vishow River due to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, to take a first-hand appraisal of the situation arising due to rains in Kulgam, the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Athar Aamir Khan, visited several flood-prone areas including Brazloo, Aadpora, and Chambagund.
DC Kulgam urged people to utilize helpline numbers 9103424365 and 01931-295900 for assistance.
“For any assistance in the district, especially in view of the heavy rainfall, please reach out to our 24×7 District Control Room and District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC) anytime on these helpline numbers,” the DC said.
He said that around 121 safe shelters have been identified to accommodate residents or nomads from 63 vulnerable areas in the district. He added that Revenue, Police, Flood Control, R&B, and SDRF teams have been mobilized.
He further said that in light of the current weather conditions, people are strongly advised against venturing near water bodies as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incidents
