Srinagar, Mar 10: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said that there is no proposal under consideration for constructing a vehicle bridge over the Jhelum River near Kathpora Hajin.
The information was shared in a written reply by the Public Works (R&B) Department in response to a query raised by MLA Hilal Akbar Lone in the Assembly.
However, the government said that a 240-meter-long footbridge over the Jhelum at Tundpora Kathapora—near the Mini Secretariat—is under consideration for approval under the NABARD RIDF XXX scheme. This bridge, once constructed, will provide a pedestrian link between Hajin and Hakbara and will be located about 500 meters downstream from the initially proposed bridge site.
The reply also mentioned that an existing footbridge at Asham is 300 meters upstream from the proposed location, offering another connectivity option for pedestrians.
While there is no plan for a vehicle bridge at the moment, the construction of the footbridge is expected to improve pedestrian movement and local connectivity in the area.
The government added that the project is still in the approval stage and will be implemented once sanctioned under the NABARD scheme.
