Pulwama, Sept 11: The Panel Head of the Jamaat-e-Islami ( JeI) Jammu & Kashmir, Ghulam Qadir Wani on Wednesday said there is no need to respond to former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti who questioned the credibility of the independent candidates supported by the banned organisation.
Mehbooba Mufti, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, speaking to media persons in the Watchi area of Shopian said that JeI is facing a ban and that she doubts whether the organisation is contesting the upcoming elections or they are agency people disguising themselves as Jamaat.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Wani expressed disappointment with the current state of politics, saying it has become murky. He, however, expressed his helplessness to change it.
Wani said Jamaat-e-Islami would demonstrate a “clean and pure” way of engaging in politics and saw no need to respond to Mehbooba Mufti.
“Why is she concerned about whether Jamaat supports independent candidates or not? She is making these statements to distract people because she knows Jamaat has its own vote bank,” the former JeI chief said, adding, “The public is well aware of such tactics, which would no longer work.”
Wani revealed that during a rally in Bugam on September 08, Jamaat-e-Islami introduced four independent candidates whom the organisation supports.
He reiterated that JeI would maintain patience in the face of accusations made by mainstream politicians, saying there was no need to engage in accusations and counter-accusations.
