Srinagar, Mar 3: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday stated that there is no need for a new resolution on Article 370, as the resolution passed by the Assembly in its first session last year regarding special status remains unchallenged by the Central government.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, Omar emphasised the importance of legislators working together to support the government in fulfilling its priorities for public welfare.
He said that the resolution passed in November 2024 is still valid, having been supported by the PDP and other parties. “The fact that the resolution was not rejected by the Centre is significant. There is no need to introduce a new one,” Omar said in response to reports suggesting that some members were planning to bring forward a fresh resolution condemning the abrogation of Article 370.
Omar reiterated that the Assembly had already taken a firm stand on the issue of special status in its first session and would not revisit the same process. “If the resolution hadn’t been passed earlier, we could have had discussions on the matter. But we brought it forward, and the House passed it with a majority. So, what more is there to discuss?” he asked.
Referring to Independent MLA Sheikh Khursheed’s demonstration demanding justice for two civilians killed in Sopore and Kathua, as well as the restoration of Article 370 and statehood, Omar remarked that such issues should be raised within the House, not outside it.
On the topic of political alliances, Omar ruled out any possibility of an alliance with the BJP, stating that the National Conference and BJP have completely different ideologies. “There is a vast difference in our approach to Jammu and Kashmir. There is no scope or need for such an alliance,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister also assured that the government would address the concerns raised by members in the Assembly.
