Srinagar, Jan 24: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, on Friday assured that the fight against the drug menace will continue relentlessly, with strict action against habitual offenders involved in the drug trade.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, IGP Birdi emphasised that all such offenders are under surveillance, and no one will be spared. Addressing concerns about the lack of action against major drug traffickers, he reiterated that authorities are closely monitoring all aspects of the issue.
On the Republic Day preparations, IGP Birdi highlighted the importance of public participation in the celebrations. “Extensive security measures are in place, and I encourage people to attend in large numbers to witness this event,” he said, underscoring that Republic Day is a celebration for every citizen.
Regarding the involvement of surrendered terrorists in terror-related activities, IGP Birdi assured that police are vigilantly monitoring such individuals in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The main Republic Day function in the Valley will take place at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar, where the Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor will unfurl the national flag and take the salute. In Kashmir, the primary celebration will also be held at Bakshi Stadium, with Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary presiding over the event.
