Srinagar, July 27: After an unexpected defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari on Saturday said the party will neither form alliances nor seek support from others or provide support to any party in the upcoming elections.
Bukhari said the Apni Party is actively addressing the gaps through door-to-door campaigns and gearing up for the upcoming assembly elections. “We are holding door-to-door campaigns, which are proving fruitful in building a stronger party. The unexpected defeat in the Lok Sabha elections has compelled us to address the gaps between the party and the people, and we are successfully doing so,” he said.
The Apni Party Chief also commented on Jamaat-e-Islami, saying that religious parties should be allowed to carry out their activities, and he respects them, including Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq. If they choose to contest elections in Jammu and Kashmir, it is acceptable, as everyone has the right to participate in a democratic process,” he said.
Bukhari further revealed that he will contest elections from both Uri and Chanapora in Srinagar. “I have strong support in both areas, so I will contest from these two constituencies,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the Apni Party, Altaf Bukhari during his visit to Uri presided over a series of meetings with party leaders and senior workers. “On the occasion, the local leadership shared their feedback and suggestions on further strengthening the party in the constituency. They also outlined a strategy to enhance public outreach in preparation for the upcoming polls,” the statement said, adding that many political activists joined the party. Bukhari warmly welcomed these new members into the party fold.
Speaking on these occasions, Bukhari assured the people that if the Apni Party receives a public mandate in the upcoming elections, it will work to ensure the prosperity and well-being of this border region.
