The Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) core group convened a significant meeting today at Nishat Srinagar, presided over by Farooq A Gillani, IFS (Retd.), Chief Conservation Forests. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss critical environmental initiatives, with a primary focus on conservation efforts in Ganderbal.

In attendance were esteemed members including Chairman NLCO, Manzoor Wangnoo; Er. Ajaz Rasool, Hydraulic Expert; Dr. Mushtaq Margoob, Renowned Psychiatrist; Advocate Nadeem Qadri; Amacus Curie; M Shafi Boktoo; and Nisar Ahmad, member NLCO.

During the meeting, the core group commended the efforts of Mr. Shyambir, IAS DC Ganderbal, for his proactive stance in advancing eco-tourism in Ganderbal. Following a recent meeting between Chairman NLCO and DC Ganderbal, it was unanimously decided that NLCO would collaborate with the district administration to undertake the restoration of 10 springs and initiate a mega plantation drive in the district.

The expert members of the core group deliberated on the proposed initiatives, resolving to dispatch an advance team to visit the identified springs and plantation areas in Ganderbal. Under the supervision of Farooq Gillani, Er. Ajaz Rasool, and Nadeem Qadri, this team will make necessary arrangements and assessments to kickstart the mission effectively.

Additionally, the core group pledged to advocate for the speedy rejuvenation of Gilsar-Khushalsar, emphasizing the importance of bringing these twin lakes under the purview of the Wetland Authority for enhanced protection and conservation measures.

Chairman NLCO expressed gratitude to all participants for their prompt attendance and proactive engagement in furthering the organization’s objectives.(KNS)
