Kupwara, June 19: Nine inmates suffered burn injuries following an LPG gas cylinder explosion at the sub-jail in Kupwara, North Kashmir, on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at around 6 p.m., causing panic and prompting an immediate response from local authorities.
According to reports, the blast resulted from a gas leakage, leading to injuries among the inmates. Officials from the Health Department were alerted about the incident around 6 p.m. and promptly dispatched ambulances and medical teams to the scene.
Dr. Iqbal, Medical Superintendent of SDH Kupwara, confirmed the swift response, stating, “As soon as we received the information, we immediately sent medical teams to the jail.” The injured inmates were quickly transported to the hospital for treatment.
The exact cause of the gas leakage is yet to be determined, and an inquiry has been initiated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
After providing medical aid at SDH Kupwara, all the injured persons have been shifted to a Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment. Among them, one person has suffered grievous burn injuries.
