Srinagar, Aug 08: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against four individuals, including a Pakistan-based terrorist, in connection with the brutal killing of two non-local civilians in Srinagar earlier this year. The killings were carried out by terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its offshoot, The Resistance Front (TRF), in February.
“The accused, Adil Manzoor Langoo, Ahran Rasool Dar @ Tota, Dawood, and their Pakistan-based handler Jahangeer @ Peer Sahab, have been chargesheeted under various sections of IPC and UA (P) Act,” he said.
The NIA spokesman stated that the agency took over the case in June 2024 and re-registered it as RC-01/2024/NIA/JMU. The NIA Special Court in Jammu has issued an open-ended non-bailable warrant against the absconding accused, Jahangeer.
“All four accused were involved in the brutal killing of two civilians on the evening of February 7, 2024, at Karfali Mohalla, Shala Kadal, Srinagar,” the spokesman said.
Investigations revealed that Adil Manzoor Langoo, who joined LeT in 2023, was motivated by Pakistani handlers to intensify the terror group’s activities in Srinagar. Along with his associates Ahran Rasool Dar and Dawood, Adil allegedly operated under Jahangeer’s instructions to wage “jihad” and spread terror among non-locals in the area.
“On Jahangeer’s orders, Adil and Ahran received arms and ammunition, which were later used by Adil to commit the crime. Dawood played a role in destroying evidence,” the spokesman added.
The NIA has intensified its crackdown on terror outfits in Kashmir, with LeT, despite being banned, continuing to operate through various offshoots.
” LeT/TRF has been luring unemployed youth into terrorist activities by using the social media extensively to propagate its dangerous agenda and promote its activities,” he said adding that further investigations are continuing in the case.
