Ganderbal, Mar 30: Authorities in Ganderbal have introduced strict restrictions on the entry of students into Qamaria Park during school and college hours, aiming to tackle the rising trend of truancy and ensure better discipline among youth. The decision follows repeated complaints about students skipping classes and frequenting the park during academic hours. In a swift enforcement drive, the Station House Officer (SHO) Ganderbal, acting on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), carried out a surprise inspection at the park. Several students were found present during school hours, prompting immediate action by the police. Acting on the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), the Station House Officer (SHO) Ganderbal led a surprise raid at Qamaria Park, during which several students were found allegedly
skipping classes. During the operation, police reportedly recovered cigarettes and hidden school uniforms from the premises. The students were counselled on the spot and warned against repeating such behaviour. Officials said the move is part of a broader effort to maintain order and encourage students to prioritise their education. “This action is meant to guide students back to classrooms and discourage truancy,” a police official said. Meanwhile, civil society members have also extended their support to the initiative, issuing a warning that any student found violating the ban will be handed over to the police. Local residents have appreciated the step taken by Ganderbal Police. “We welcome this decision. It was becoming common to see students spending school hours in the park instead of attending classes,” said a local elder. Another
resident added, “This is a positive move for the future of our children. Missing classes for leisure in parks is not acceptable. These are crucial years that will not come back.” Locals also urged parents to take greater responsibility in monitoring their children’s activities. “Parents must keep a close watch on their wards. Many students bunk classes and spend time here during school and college hours. This trend needs to stop,” they said. They further emphasised that students should focus on their studies rather than wasting valuable time. “Education should be their priority. Parents too must ensure their children attend classes regularly and remain engaged in productive activities,” they added. Authorities have reiterated that the ban will remain strictly enforced, and any violations will be dealt with firmly.
