Srinagar, Apr 01: Residents of Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have urged the government to provide an additional '102 ambulance' for the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sonamarg, citing concerns over patient safety and timely emergency response. Locals said that while both 108 and 102 ambulance services are currently available, the existing 102 ambulance has aged and is deteriorating. “We already have both 108 and 102 ambulances, but the 102 vehicle is deteriorating and may not remain suitable for handling serious emergencies in the future,” said a local resident. They noted that Sonamarg, being a prominent tourist destination, witnesses a steady
influx of visitors, increasing the likelihood of medical emergencies. “Thousands of tourists visit Sonamarg regularly. In case of any unfortunate incident, patients are often referred to Srinagar or Kangan. During such times, having a dependable and well-equipped ambulance becomes essential,” another resident said. Residents said PHC Sonamarg would greatly benefit from a new 102 ambulance to ensure safe and timely patient transportation. “We believe a new 102 ambulance will significantly strengthen emergency healthcare services and help in timely patient care,” another resident added. The locals have appealed to Health Minister Sakina Itoo and MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali to consider the matter. “We
humbly request the Hon’ble Health Minister and our MLA to address this healthcare need and facilitate the provision of a new 102 ambulance for Sonamarg,” they said. They also expressed hope that the issue will be taken up during the ongoing assembly session for early redressal. Meanwhile, sources indicated the existing 102 ambulance is in a dilapidated condition. The vehicle was reportedly brought from SHTO after the previous ambulance at the health centre had been declared unserviceable. Residents remain hopeful that timely attention from the authorities will help strengthen emergency healthcare services and enhance patient care in this key tourist destination.
