Srinagar, Mar 29: The Jammu and Kashmir government is moving ahead with plans to reshape the education system, with a strong focus on skills, access, and quality. Officials said the aim is to make education more job-oriented. Schools and colleges will introduce vocational subjects and link classroom learning with practical skills. The idea is to prepare students for jobs and self-employment at an early stage. An official told Rising Kashmir that many students in J&K study only with the hope of securing a government job, which is not possible for all. “We need to change this mindset and open more career paths for students,” the official said. To support this shift, the government has announced free education up to the college level for economically weaker sections. The move
is aimed at ensuring that no student is left out due to financial constraints. Officials said more students will also be covered under various welfare schemes. The reforms are expected to reduce dropout rates and improve enrolment in higher education. Technology will play a key role in the new system. The government plans to expand smart classrooms and promote digital learning in schools. Online content and basic digital education will be introduced so students can keep pace with modern trends. Officials believe this will help bridge the gap between rural and urban education standards. Efforts are also underway to improve basic learning levels. Schools have been directed to conduct regular assessments and provide extra support to students who fall behind. Remedial classes and supplementary examinations will ensure that no
student is left behind. Teacher accountability is also set to improve. The government is working on better monitoring systems and streamlined recruitment processes to maintain teaching standards. In higher education, new institutions and expanded facilities are being planned to accommodate more students within the Union Territory. This includes new courses and increased intake capacity in existing colleges. Curriculum changes are being introduced gradually. Officials said the updates will make learning more relevant to current needs while maintaining stability in lower classes. The government also acknowledged that past disruptions and irregular academic calendars have affected learning outcomes. Steps are being taken to ensure smoother academic sessions and better continuity in education. Officials believe these reforms will lead to a more practical and inclusive education system in Jammu and Kashmir.
