Budgam, Apr 08: Residents of several villages in the Soibugh and Wadan areas of Budgam have appealed to the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department to carry out immediate repairs on a waterlogged stretch of road located on the lower side of a bridge along the Ring Road near the Daharmunnah area.
Locals said that the problem becomes particularly severe during rainfall and snowfall, when water accumulates on the road, causing inconvenience to commuters and increasing the risk of accidents. They said that the issue has persisted for a long time without any effective intervention.
Mohammad Isaaq, a local resident, highlighted the difficulties faced by people due to the absence of a proper drainage system. “During rain and snowfall, this stretch remains submerged in water as there is no drainage facility to channel it out. People are forced to use this road as there is no alternative route,” he said.
He added that school children are among the worst affected. “Students who walk to school face immense hardship while crossing the waterlogged road. The stagnant water is also causing health concerns, particularly skin-related issues,” Isaaq said.
Residents said they had previously approached the R&B Division Budgam, requesting the construction of a proper drainage system to prevent waterlogging. However, they expressed disappointment that no concrete action has been taken so far.
Another senior citizen said that farmers are facing serious challenges in accessing their agricultural fields. “Farmers need to visit their fields regularly, but the waterlogged road makes it extremely difficult for them to cross,” he said.
Residents further claimed that the affected stretch has become accident-prone, with vehicles often getting stuck in the waterlogged portion.
Residents have urged the Deputy Commissioner Budgam to intervene and direct the concerned department to resolve the issue at the earliest so that the problem can be permanently addressed.
Officials from the R&B Division Budgam could not be contacted at the time of filing this report. Their comments will be included once received.
