Inaugurates Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition under ATMA at Lalmandi Srinagar
Srinagar, Mar 29: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperatives and Election Departments, UT J&K, Javid Ahmad Dar, on Sunday inaugurated a district-level Kisan Mela cum Exhibition under ATMA at Lalmandi, Srinagar. The event was organised by the Chief Agriculture Officer Srinagar with the aim of taking government schemes and services directly to farmers. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the government is committed to ensuring that farmers receive all facilities at their doorsteps. He stated that such fairs provide a direct interface between farmers and departments, helping them understand and avail benefits under various schemes. Referring to the challenges facing present-day
agriculture, the Minister stressed the need to move beyond traditional practices and highlighted the importance of an integrated approach in agriculture and allied sectors. He informed that the department is extending skill training to youth along with financial assistance under different schemes, including subsidies of over 50 percent, to make agriculture a sustainable and attractive livelihood option. He added that under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), priority is being given to small and marginal farmers. In his welcome address, Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmed Shah, gave a detailed presentation on various schemes and programmes being implemented in the Kashmir division. He underscored the achievements
under different schemes and their impact on the overall agriculture scenario. Earlier, the Minister visited various stalls set up by agriculture and allied departments, agri-entrepreneurs, FPOs, and youth clubs. On the occasion, Director Planning and Marketing, Gh Jeelani Zargar, Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir, Dr Shaikh Mohammad Younis, Director Horticulture Kashmir, Dr Vikas Anand, Director Fisheries Kashmir, Abdul Majeed Tak, Joint Director Agriculture Extension, Madan Gopal Singh, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs, Sohan Singh, Joint Director Engineering, Shabir Ahmad Mir, Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama, Waheed-ur-Rehman, Deputy Director Law Enforcement, Mujtaba Yahya, senior officers from allied departments, and a large number of farmers from Srinagar district were present.
