Ganderbal, Apr 08: Residents of several areas in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have raised concerns over the poor drainage system, saying it causes major inconvenience, especially during rainy days.

Areas including Gund Kullo Mohallah, Gund-21, Ramwari, Gagangir, Kullan, inner areas of Kangan and Ganderbal, and adjoining localities are frequently submerged in muddy water whenever it rains, disrupting daily life.

“Whenever it rains, our lanes and roads get flooded with dirty water. It becomes very hard for us to even step out of our homes,” said a local resident from Ganderbal.

“The drainage system here has remained neglected. Even light rainfall turns the entire area into a pool of muddy water,” said another resident.

“Children and elderly people face the worst problems. It becomes risky for them to walk through these waterlogged lanes,” said a resident from Kangan.

Another local added, “These drains are often clogged because people throw garbage into them. If the drainage system is properly developed and maintained by the department, the situation can improve significantly.”

“We have raised this issue multiple times, but nothing has changed so far. Authorities must take this seriously now,” said a resident from Gund.

Locals also complained about the foul smell emanating from the drains, particularly during rainfall when water overflows. “The stench becomes unbearable during rains. It is not just inconvenient but also poses health risks,” residents said.

“During rains, dirty water accumulates on roads. It creates poor conditions and increases the risk of slipping,” another resident of Gund Kullo Mohallah said.

“We appeal to the concerned authorities to visit these areas and assess the situation on the ground. Only then will they understand our problems,” said a local youth.

The residents have urged the authorities to take immediate action and improve the drainage infrastructure to prevent further inconvenience and ensure proper sanitation in the area.
