Five Weeks of Bombs. Ten Points of Surrender. Iran Won Let us dispense with the mythology before it hardens into history
The ceasefire announced ninety minutes before Trump's theatrical deadline was not American strategic resolve. It was the formal acknowledgement of a devastating fact: the United States launched a war it could not finish, on behalf of an ally it could not control, and was rescued by a client state executing instructions it dared not refuse. Iran, meanwhile, achieved virtually everything it entered this conflict to secure. Its regime stands. Its successor, the supreme leader, governs. Its ten-point proposal sanctions relief, cessation of hostilities, and sovereign dominion over the Strait of Hormuz form the working basis of Friday's negotiations. A nation bombed for five weeks is now dictating the agenda. Pakistan provided Washington an exit ramp that American dignity could not build for itself. Trump called it a victory. History will call it otherwise.
The civilisation that survived was Iran's. The fiction that collapsed was America's.
