The blockbuster contest between India and England at Lord’s ended with the hosts walking away with the victory and a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series. With on-field spats aplenty, this was one of the most spicier Tests in recent memory but it was England who had the last laugh with a 22-run victory, leaving India with 2 matches in order to get something out of the series.
England bowled India out for 192 in their second innings, setting India a target of 193 to win. At stumps on Day 4, India was 58/4, needing 135 more runs to win with six wickets in hand. Day 5 saw a collapse with India loosing three wickets quickly including top batters Rahul and Pant. Jadega put up a heroic resistance with 61 runs. He was supported by Bumrah (5 runs of 54 balls) and Siraj(4 runs of 30 balls). In 75th over it was Shoab Bashir's delivery which took a bit of a turn and Siraj tried to fend it; however, the ball rolled onto hit the leg-stump and it did just enough to dislodge the bails, all out for 170. Mohammed Siraj just sat there in agony. While England won the game but India did fight extremely well. A spare thought for Jadeja, who has given everything in that chase. Could he have played quicker? That is a debate which can never be concluded, but it is one of the greatest innings he has played in Test colours, but it did come in a losing cause.
