COVID-19: Nine more die in JK, toll 169

With 268 fresh cases, tally crosses 10,000 mark

Nine more persons including eight from Kashmir died of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours taking the death toll in J&K to 169, officials said.
A 77-year-old man from Hyperpora area of Srinagar died at SKIMS Srinagar.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said the deceased was a case of carcinoma urinary bladder and was admitted with bilateral pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
“He was very sick and was on ventilator support with double pressor at the institute’s infectious disease block and died at 7:45 am today,” he said.
A 73-year-old coronavirus positive man from Pattan area of Baramulla, who was diagnosed with COPD with pancytopenia, died at the institute.
A 70-year-old woman from Nunar Ganderbal also died at the institute.
A 56-year-old woman from Shalimar Srinagar who was COVID-19 positive died of cardiopulmonary arrest at SKIMS.
“The patient was admitted on July 7. She was a case of hypertension, community-acquired pneumonia and diabetes,” Jan said.
A 65-year-old man from Srinagar’s Habba Kadal area died at the Chest Disease Hospital.
As per hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr Saleem Tak, the patient was diabetic, hypertensive, and had been suffering from bilateral pneumonia.
A 45-year-old man from Kupwara also died at CD Hospital.
A 45-year-old man from Kanipora Srinagar died at SMHS hospital.
As per the doctors, he was also suffering from bilateral pneumonia.
A 25-year-old woman from Hakura area of Anantnag died at SMHS Hospital.
She died 13 days after she delivered a baby at Lal Ded maternity hospital.
“The woman was having high blood pressure. She had given birth to a male baby on June 27. The baby is safe. The woman had intracranial haemorrhage due to high blood pressure. She was put on ventilator and died Friday evening,” said Medical Superintendent SMHS, Dr Nazir H Chowdary.
Earlier, a 55-year-old man from Bari Brahmana in Jammu died at Government Medical College Jammu.
He was admitted on June 29 and was suffering from comorbidities like CA bladder and diabetes.
With the nine fresh casualties, the death toll due to the novel coronavirus has soared to 169 in J&K that includes 153 from Kashmir and 16 from Jammu.
The government said Srinagar has witnessed 42 deaths, Baramulla 32, Kulgam 18, Shopian 16, Anantnag 14, Budgam 12, Jammu nine, Kupwara nine , Pulwama five, Bandipora three, Doda two, and Ganderbal, Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri one each.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 cases have crossed 10,000 mark in Jammu Kashmir as 268 fresh cases have been reported on Saturday including 181 from Kashmir, 87 from Jammu taking the total infection tally to 10,156.
Saturday’s cases include 67 from Srinagar, 37 from Baramulla, Rajouri 29, Kulgam 23, Kathua 20, Anantnag, Samba six each, Pulwama five, Budgam, Reasi four each, Udhampur, Poonch three each, and Shopian, Ganderbal and Kishtwar one each.
Of these cases, 64 samples returned positive at the Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS Srinagar, which tested 1302 samples during the past 24 hours.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said they include 23 from Srinagar, 12 paramilitary CRPF men, Kulgam 11, Anantnag seven, Baramulla, Pulwama three each, and Budgam, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Shopian and Kargil one each.
The COVID-19 testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina Saturday tested 436 samples of which 12 cases returned positive.
They include 10 from Srinagar and two from Budgam.
The government said of the total 4,45,169 test results available, 4,35,013 returned negative and 10,156 positive which include 4092 active positive cases while 5895 have recovered and been discharged including 109 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.
It said, so far, 3,11,254 persons had been put under observation including 38,650 in home quarantine, 4092 in hospital isolation, and 36 in hospital quarantine while 45,156 people are under home surveillance and 2,23,3151 persons have completed their surveillance period.
So far, Kashmir has reported 7975 cases while Jammu division has 2181 cases.
In Kashmir, Srinagar tops the list with 1611 cases followed by Baramulla with 1288, Kulgam 987, Shopian 888, Anantnag 781, Kupwara 746, Pulwama 645, Budgam 532, Bandipora 336 and Ganderbal 161.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 473 cases followed by Udhampur with 301, Kathua 292, Ramban 254, Samba 224, Rajouri 269, Poonch 142, Doda 124, Reasi 57, and Kishtwar 45.
Jammu Kashmir has so far reported 169 deaths to coronavirus pandemic of which 153 have been reported from Kashmir division alone.
