Several villages in Budgam declared tourist destinations under Mission Youth's TVDP
Srinagar, Mar 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Government informed the Assembly that several villages in Budgam district have been declared as “Tourist Villages” under the Tourist Village Development Programme of Mission Youth, as per Government Order No. FD-MY/35/2021 dated September 1, 2022.
The villages identified under the initiative include Khag, Sitharan, Beerwah, Rathsun, Makhama, Hardupanzoo, Raiyar Khansahib, Poshkar, Pakharpora, Kachwari, Nilnag, Kawoosa-Kanihama, Branwar, Wathoora, and Zoogu Arizal.
The announcement was made in response to a question raised by MLA Ali Mohammad Dar in the Assembly. Replying on behalf of the government, the Minister in charge of the Labour and Employment Department stated that these villages were selected based on their tourism potential and existing infrastructural gaps.
“As per the scheme guidelines, villages are shortlisted on the recommendations of the concerned Deputy Commissioner. These recommendations are further evaluated by an inter-sectoral expert committee comprising representatives from the Tourism Department and other stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive assessment and coordinated planning,” the minister said.
Under the scheme, youth groups aged between 18 and 35 years from the notified villages are eligible for financial assistance to undertake self-employment ventures. Each group, consisting of a minimum of five members, can avail financial support of up to ₹10 lakh. This includes ₹8.5 lakh, or 85 percent of the project cost, whichever is lower, as a loan under the Mudra scheme, and ₹1.5 lakh, or 15 percent of the project cost, as an upfront subsidy from Mission Youth.
Additionally, Mission Youth provides a special subsidy of up to ₹3.5 lakh towards loan repayment. Beneficiaries are also supported through preparation of Detailed Project Reports, skill development training, marketing and promotional assistance, and guidance during project execution.
The minister further informed the House that, at present, there is no proposal under consideration for declaring additional villages as Tourist Villages in Budgam or any other district of Jammu and Kashmir.
