Srinagar, Apr 04: Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Saturday welcomed the inquiry ordered by the Lieutenant Governor into the alleged fake encounter case, asserting that those found guilty should face the harshest punishment.
Speaking to reporters at Maisuma in Srinagar, Bukhari said the decision to order an inquiry is a positive step, but stressed that such incidents have occurred in the past as well. “This is not the first fake encounter in Jammu and Kashmir. There have been many such cases earlier. I hope such incidents stop and justice is delivered swiftly,” he said, adding that those involved “should be hanged” if found guilty.
The Apni Party leader also raised concerns over the delay in regularisation of casual labourers, saying many have been working for decades and deserve justice.
“These workers have served for nearly 20 years. It is their right to be regularised. The government must act without delay instead of waiting for elections,” he said.
Commenting on reservations, Bukhari criticised what he termed a lack of seriousness among political stakeholders. He said reservation policies should benefit common people, particularly those in underprivileged areas. “Reservation must reach deserving sections of society, especially those who are struggling,” he added.
Bukhari further appealed to Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to initiate dialogue with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He also sought the release of youth lodged in jails, urging that cases against them be expedited.
“Those not involved in heinous crimes should be considered for amnesty after proper verification. Justice delayed only adds to their suffering,” he said.
Reiterating the need for peace, Bukhari said efforts must be made to address public grievances and create an environment conducive to dialogue and stability in the region.
