Srinagar, Apr: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed that a total of 2,395 Rehbar-e-Khel (REK) teachers were engaged across all 20 districts of the Union Territory in 2019.
The information was provided in response to a question raised by MLA Reyaz Ahmad Khan. The Minister for Youth Services and Sports said the policy governing Rehbar-e-Khel appointments was framed under Government Order No. 141-Edu (YSS) of 2017, dated October 27, 2017.
According to the policy, regularisation of REK teachers is to be carried out in a staggered manner. Eligible candidates are to be considered after completion of seven years of satisfactory and continuous service, subject to the availability or creation of posts for Physical Education Teachers.
The Minister further stated that, as of February 2026, REK teachers from 10 districts have completed the mandatory seven-year tenure in line with the policy guidelines, and their cases are due for consideration under the prescribed framework.
The government reiterated that the regularisation process will be implemented in phases, ensuring that all eligible REKs are accommodated against available or newly created posts. It added that modalities for executing the process are currently under examination.
