Srinagar, July 14: National Conference on Friday said the new ration policy has disturbed the nutritional demands of the people.
“The new ration policy ever since it has been in vogue has disturbed the nutritional demands of the people, particularly the poorer sections,” said the party’s provincial VP Kashmir and in-charge of the Lal Chowk Constituency Ahsan Pardesi while presiding over a meeting of the Amira Kadal block at the party headquarters, Nawai Subh, on Friday.
“Consumers are being taken for a ride. The reduced rice quota, the main staple food in Kashmir, has resulted in a crisis, especially for the middle-class and low-income population. Closure of the Jammu Kashmir Food Entitlement Scheme (JKFES) in September 2022 and the subsequent withdrawal of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) plunged the region into a severe ration crisis,” he said.
Provincial President Women’s Wing Er. Sabiya Qadri also addressed the meeting. She urged the cadre to stand united and be ready for any imminent challenges. Additional Spokesperson Sheikh Ovase and YNC Kashmir functionaries Faiz Bhat, Nisar Bhat and others were also present on the occasion. Among other public issues, organizational issues were also discussed in the meeting.
