Attends Foundation Day celebration of SMVDSB & annual day of SMVDG
Says character building is vital to Build the Nation

Katra, Aug 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the 39th Foundation Day of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at the Matrika Auditorium of SMVD University, coinciding with the 14th annual day of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul (SMVDG).
Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Shrine Board, congratulated all members and officials involved with the Shrine Board and Gurukul for their contributions to the inclusive development of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the Board’s efforts to ensure a hassle-free pilgrimage and enhance the spiritual experience for devotees.
Highlighting the need for educational reform, the Lt Governor called for a blend of moral values and scientific thinking in education. He urged teachers to embrace change and adopt new syllabi to ensure holistic education for all.
“Curiosity is the foundation of lifelong learning and essential for addressing future challenges. Character building is crucial for nation-building,” said the Lt Governor. He praised the Gurukul’s balance between a pragmatic curriculum responsive to modern needs and spiritual upliftment through Vedic education.
The Lt Governor commended Mahamandleshwar Shri Swami Vishveshvaranand Giriji Maharaj, Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri, and the Gurukul teachers for their efforts in preserving and promoting Vedic and Sanatan traditions.
During the event, the Lt Governor felicitated meritorious students, staff members, and the team responsible for the Yatra Marg to the Holy Shrine façade lighting project. He also released Dr. Neelam Sareen’s book “Shri Mata Vaishno Devi – Ek Alokik Sidh Peeth” and the third edition of the SMVD Gurukul Annual Magazine.
Later, the Lt Governor inspected ongoing construction work at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence.
The event was attended by members of the Shrine Board, university officials, district administration officers, students, faculty, and prominent citizens.
