Akhnoor attack and Gulmarg terror attacks must raise the alarm bells. The need is to see these attacks in totality. After taking over the reins of power by the democratically elected government in Jammu and Kashmir there is a change in strategy by the terror modules operating in the Union Territory(UT). In the beginning of this year there was a complete focus by the terror groups in destabilising Jammu region and in that process they indulged in ambushing the Indian Army in Rajouri and the adjoining areas repeatedly. The security analysts presumed that the theatre of war was being shifted to the Jammu region. Even the Kathua region in Jammu witnessed the presence of terrorism. Now going through the new series of attacks it is clear that the terror modules are operating with a clear strategy to keep both the regions of Jammu and Kashmir activated so that they have the manoeuvrability to assert and disturb peace at their whims and fancies. And this cannot happen without the local support and the presence of the Over Ground Workers (OGW) who are the facilitating arms of these terror networks. It seems that these terror groups were regrouping to hit at the opportune time with an element of surprise. If these terror attacks are closely analysed right at the commencement of 2024 there is a definite pattern. The aim of the terror modules has been to engage the Indian Army and the security forces and inflict maximum damage. It means that these groups are battle hardened. The Rajouri attacks that were going on during the dawn of 2024 clearly show that it is not possible for the isolated terror groups to take the Indian Army head on. The use of sophisticated weapons and use of battle tactics makes it clear that their patrons across the border in Pakistan have changed the tactics. And this must be underlined to understand the modus operandi to evolve an effective strategy to stop this continuous assault on the Indian Armed Forces. Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha in a review meeting held in Srinagar has taken stock of the security situation with the top brass of the civil and police administration .He has directed the security establishment to take pre-emptive action to decimate the terror threats. That is indeed the need of the hour. Moreover, there is urgent need to infuse confidence in the general masses both in Jammu and Kashmir in the might of our security forces. Lauding the effective operations against the terrorists in Akhnoor, a top army officer, Major General Sameer Srivastava has said that after the successful Akhnoor Operation to nab the terrorists the Indian Army will not allow free run to them so that civilians are not harmed. Meanwhile , he has said that nearly 50 terrorists are present in the launching pads across the border to sneak into the Jammu region. His assertion is that there is a change in pattern in terms of infiltration each year. It is a well-known fact that before the onset of winter and the snowfall, Pakistan makes all efforts to push terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir and create mayhem. We cannot lower the guard. From the start of this year it is clear that terrorists have infiltrated and are posing a serious threat as and when they require to show their presence to destabilise the peace. There is a need for extra vigil and integrated security mechanisms to decimate their nefarious plans. The incumbent Jammu and Kashmir Government must put a comprehensive strategy in place to save innocent lives.
