Rehan Qayoom MirSrinagar, May 17 : Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday said that the National Commission for Women’s (NCW) programme in Jammu and Kashmir reflects the Central government’s priority towards women empowerment and backward regions.

He said the initiative also highlights Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on Jammu and Kashmir and other historically affected areas.Talking to the reporters on the sideline of programme, Dr Singh as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), congratulated NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar for launching a new series of “Power Dialogues on Women” and holding its fourth edition in Jammu and Kashmir.“First of all, I would like to congratulate the Chief Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Mrs Vijaya Rahatkar.

She has started a new series of Power Dialogues on Women and has decided to hold her fourth programme in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.He said the initiative was earlier conducted in Delhi as well, aimed at taking women-centric programmes closer to the grassroots level.

“She has done this programme in Delhi before so that women-centric dialogue reaches the doorsteps of women,” Dr Singh said.Referring to Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural identity, he said the region holds a unique place in India’s heritage.

“This land of Jammu and Kashmir is the land of Rishis and Munis and also the land of Lal-e-Ishwar, Lal Ded and Habba Khatoon,” he said.

He said the region had witnessed a difficult period in the past decades, during which many families suffered heavy losses. “Many of our sisters lost their husbands, many parents lost their daughters and many daughters lost their parents,” he said.

Dr Singh said Jammu and Kashmir is now emerging from that phase and the NCW programme reflects renewed attention towards the region under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The National Commission for Women reaching here and giving special attention to this area shows how Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given priority to Jammu and Kashmir and other backward regions,” he said.

He said women in Jammu and Kashmir are highly intelligent and have shown remarkable improvement in confidence and aspirations over the last 10–12 years due to government initiatives. “It is an aspirational surge among the women of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.Dr Singh said women are now excelling in education and competitive fields. “Girls from Jammu and Kashmir are now securing top positions in civil services and performing well in IIT and NIT examinations,” he said.

He added that women from the region are increasingly becoming part of the national mainstream and contributing to the country’s development journey. “They are ready to participate in India’s development journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047, when the country will complete 100 years of independence,” he said.

Dr Singh further expressed confidence that women of Jammu and Kashmir will play a key role in shaping the future of the region and the country.“The daughters, mothers and sisters of Jammu and Kashmir will play an important role in illuminating the bright future of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said—(KNO)
