JAMMU, Jan 30: In a groundbreaking achievement, Captain Ulfat Khan from Uri District, Kashmir, made history as the first girl cadet to command the Prime Minister’s Rally (PM Rally) during the Republic Day Camp 2024 in New Delhi.
Selected from a competitive pool of 2,274 NCC cadets across 28 States and Union Territories, Ulfat’s journey from a remote village near the Line of Control (LoC) to national recognition reflects her unwavering determination. Despite facing geographical barriers, her pursuit of excellence stood out.
Born in Uri, Baramulla District, in 2002, Ulfat pursued her education across Kendriya Vidyalayas in Delhi, Jharkhand, and Odisha before joining GCW Gandhinagar for higher education. Her impressive record in NCC camps, including NSC, SNIC, RDC, Mini Sailing, and CATC, showcased her leadership abilities.
Ulfat’s outstanding performance at the Republic Day Camp earned her the title of Best Commander, along with the DG Commendation Medal Certificate, highlighting her leadership qualities and dedication to service. Lieutenant Commander Ankur Kumar praised her as a role model, emphasizing her dedication and perseverance.
Ulfat’s journey from humble beginnings to national recognition was acknowledged by Sub Lieutenant Dr. Neelima, her ANO at GCW Gandhi Nagar.
Prof. Minu Mahajan, the Principal, expressed pride in Ulfat’s accomplishment, stating it reflects the institution’s values of discipline and determination.
Group Commander, Srinagar Group, commended Ulfat’s inspiring journey, praising her resilience and determination in overcoming challenges. Maj Gen R.K. Sachdeva, ADG JK&L Directorate, hailed her as a shining example and a proud moment for the entire Directorate.
Ulfat Khan’s journey exemplifies Nari Shakti’s spirit and serves as an inspiration for aspiring cadets nationwide. Her historic accomplishment at the Republic Day Camp 2024 underscores the limitless potential of women in the defence forces.
