Srinagar, Oct 29: The first session of the J&K Assembly is expected to pass a resolution by the elected members of the single largest party against the abrogation of Article 370, sources said.
A senior National Conference leader told Rising Kashmir that the session, which is to likely start in the first week of November, will see a resolution on the abrogation of Article 370.
“We are determined to move the resolution on Article 370 in the house in the first session,” he said.
The NC leader said the party has promised to the people of J&K that they will oppose the decision of August 05, 2019, and they will continue to do so.
“Our Chief Minister will take it ahead and that the demands made with the people in the manifesto will be fulfilled and central government will be urged to restore statehood at the earliest,” he added.
The senior leader further said that the chief minister recently discussed this statehood resolution with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah during a meeting in New Delhi.
“Time is not too far when the statehood will be back and we will gradually get back to the status we had – that’s what NC is fighting for,” he said.
Notably, the National Conference campaigned strongly for Article 370’s restoration and achieved a decisive win with 42 seats, the party’s highest tally since the 1996 elections.
With support from Congress and several independents, the ruling alliance now holds 55 seats, providing a comfortable majority to pass the statehood resolution.
