Jammu, Sep 04: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference will observe the 42nd death anniversary of Sheikh Abdullah as the ‘Day of Unity, Solidarity and Brotherhood’, the party’s provincial president Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta announced on Monday.
“The party stands committed to fulfill the vision of great NC leader Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohd Abdullah by defeating the divisive forces who are hell-bent on creating communal disharmony in Jammu and Kashmir for their petty vested interests,” Gupta said while addressing a meeting of party functionaries of Jammu and Samba districts here.
The meeting, according to a party statement, was chaired by Gupta to finalise the arrangements for observing the death anniversary of Sheikh Mohd Abdullah on September 8, 2023.
The senior NC leader in his address reminded those present in the meeting about the slogan ‘Hindu Muslim Sikh Ittihad’ coined by the NC’s top stature leader Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and said that this slogan is the basic tenet of the party’s philosophy that makes it the only secular party in this region. “In the existing scenario across the nation especially in J&K, there is a dire need to implement Sheikh Abdullah’s slogan of communal harmony in letter and spirit to do away with the communal division and hatred being created by the Bharatiya Janata Party for its petty vote bank interests,” he said.
Gupta asked the party workers and activists to conduct grand programmes on the day of Sheikh Abdullah’s death anniversary in order to pay rich tributes to him. He asked them to take a pledge on this day being observed as ‘Day of Unity, Solidarity and Brotherhood’ to intensify its fight against the forces dividing the people and promoting hatred.
