Jammu, Dec 29: Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Additional General Secretary JKNC and former minister, on Friday reiterated the commitment of the National Conference (NC) to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, with a special emphasis on empowering women.
Speaking at a workers meeting of the Women’s Wing in District Jammu Urban, Sadhotra highlighted the crucial role of NC as the only viable solution to the region’s challenges.
Presided over by Pinky Khalsa, District President Jammu Urban Women’s Wing, the meeting addressed the failure of the present government to alleviate the suffering of women, especially amid challenging economic conditions. Sadhotra expressed concern over the lack of concrete steps, policies, or relief measures to address the hardships faced by women managing their homes. He underscored the need for effective governance and policies to ensure the welfare of citizens, particularly women grappling with economic challenges.
Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President Jammu Province, asserted NC’s commitment to advocating and implementing policies that uplift and empower women in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the party’s belief in the strength and potential of women, advocating for their political rights and contributions to be protected and recognized. Gupta expressed serious concerns about the government’s non-serious approach in addressing economic challenges faced by women.
Additionally, Gupta raised alarms over recent rate or fee increases by the Jammu Municipal Corporation, suggesting that any such enhancements should be deferred until an elected government is in place. He stressed the importance of elected representatives making decisions attuned to the needs and capabilities of the citizens.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary JKNC Jammu, urged people, especially women, to support Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah in the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He assured that the National Conference would spare no effort in empowering women with their genuine rights.
Bimla Luthra highlighted the need to make women fully aware of their rights and take steps to empower them. She emphasized that women, as homemakers, are the worst victims of rising prices and inflation during the BJP rule.
Satwant Dogra expressed lamentation that women have been the worst sufferers under the ongoing BJP rule at the Centre and proxy rule in Jammu and Kashmir. She alleged that, despite claims of good governance, women have forgotten their rights in society during this period.
