Srinagar, Oct 29: Member of Parliament (MP) from Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday wrote to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seeking urgent attention to “important” social and administrative issues in the region.
In a letter, Mehdi congratulated the CM and emphasised the need for “vision and integrity” in governance. He highlighted several key areas that could improve the lives of the people.
“This is a significant opportunity to lead with vision and integrity, and I wish you success in fulfilling the responsibilities that come with this esteemed position,” the senior National Conference leader wrote in the letter. He urged the Chief Minister to ensure that government actions align with the aspirations of citizens and respect “the people’s mandate”.
One of Mehdi’s main concerns is the situation of prisoners held without trial. He urged Abdullah’s government to prioritise their release to uphold justice and fairness. “Your government should facilitate their release,” he said.
Ruhullah also called for a review of recent reservation policies, advocating for a balanced approach that supports deserving groups while maintaining fairness. He believes that adjusting these policies can help create a more inclusive society without lowering standards.
He stressed the importance of filling vacant government jobs, saying this would provide much-needed employment opportunities and help reduce unemployment in the region. “The swift filling of government vacancies should be a priority,” he noted.
With winter approaching, the MP raised concerns about high electricity tariffs, asking for reductions and a stable supply to help residents cope with the colder months. He criticised the current verification procedures, describing them as “overly harsh” and unjust.
Mehdi urged the Chief Minister to review these processes to make them fairer for everyone. He expressed hope that Abdullah’s leadership would lead to a “progressive and just administration” and extended his best wishes for the Chief Minister’s tenure.
