‘Says middle class, marginalised sections worst sufferers’

Jammu, Aug 06: Rattan Lal Gupta, J&K National Conference Provincial President, Jammu, on Tuesday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for its “abysmal handling” of the economy.
“The region’s economic health has deteriorated significantly under the present regime, with the middle class and marginalised society being the worst sufferers of the directionless policies of the BJP,” Gupta alleged in a statement.
The NC leader said, “The full-fledged State had been downgraded to two Union Territories. Since then, the industrial sector of J&K UT has not been in good shape, and the much-touted investments and job creation have failed to materialise on the ground.”
Citing the report that J&K received 6,851 investment proposals amounting to Rs 1.19 lakh crore ever since Article 370 was abrogated five years ago, the NC senior functionary said, “While the region must have received the aforesaid deals, the incapable helmsmen have failed to avail any benefits from them. The report also boasted about over 4 lakh jobs to be created through these proposals, but there is no mention of even a single job created so far. The reality is dismal because, except for advising the youth to fry pakoras, the incumbent dispensation has nothing to offer the population.”
Rattan Lal said the government has repeatedly claimed that the abrogation of Article 370 would lead to a flood of investments and job opportunities. “However, on the ground, there is no visible change. The promised economic revival remains a distant dream,” he asserted.
“No major industry or new industrial estate has been established in Jammu and Kashmir since the BJP has taken over the reins of the country in the last 10 years. J&K has become one of the most unemployed states in the country, which is very unfortunate for both the people and the youth,” he added.
“Only the National Conference can bail out the people from the current morass as it understands the basic issues and problems of the people across the region and is adept enough to steer the region to new heights of success and progress,” the NC Provincial President said.
