Srinagar, Mar 20: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said the party will be fighting the parliamentary elections against the “might of Centre”.
“But this is not the first time we will be fighting BJP and its machinery. We fought the 2019 parliamentary elections against the BJP and won from all three constituencies of Kashmir province. God willing we are on track to get the same results this time around as well,” he said during a meeting of the Provincial Committee Kashmir here at the party headquarters in Nawa-e-Subha. The meeting was chaired by NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah.
In his address, Omar said, “The NC has and will always work towards protecting and cherishing the political legacy of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. Being the owners of that illuminating legacy, our party functionaries, workers and grassroots level cadre have a greater responsibility in shouldering the worries of people and airing their issues at appropriate forums.
He further said that the forthcoming parliamentary elections are “primarily about sending a message to the Centre that what was done on 05 Aug 2019 is unacceptable to us”. He asked party functionaries to accelerate their outreach programmes and ensure the situation on the ground gets propagated at appropriate forums.
The meeting was marked by a threadbare discussion on challenges faced by the party and the forthcoming parliamentary elections, the party said in a statement issued here, adding, “The members also gave a detailed appraisal of the underway political activities in their respective constituencies. Among other issues, the members also raised various other issues related to the election process.”
Besides Omar, the meeting was attended by the party’s General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Addl General Secretary Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Senior leaders Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Abdul Rahim Rather, Mubarak Gul, Sharief Ud din Shariq, Aga Syed Mehmood, Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi, Political Advisor to President Mushtaq Guroo, Political Advisor to VP Mudassar Shahmiri, Zone Presidents, Incharge Constituencies, District Presidents, YNC, Provincial, media wing, women’s wing and district functionaries.
