Jammu, March 2: As part of its renowned Sunday Theatre Series, Natrang presented the Hindi play ‘Rehearsal’ at its Studio Theatre, Kachi Chawni, Jammu. Written by Lakshmi Kant Vaishnav and directed by Neeraj Kant, the play offered a sharp satirical commentary on individuals who attempt to pursue a craft without the requisite knowledge, discipline, or eligibility.
Set against the backdrop of an all-women theatrical rehearsal, the play humorously exposed the stark contrast between ambition and preparedness. While the group of aspiring performers wished to stage an impressive production, they lacked fundamental qualities such as punctuality, discipline, team spirit, self-motivation, and artistic neutrality. Instead, they were preoccupied with jealousy, gossip, egotism, and personal entitlement, particularly those who derived a sense of superiority from their husbands’ high-ranking positions. Despite the presence of a director, her lack of authority and artistic mettle failed to bring order to the chaos, leading to a rehearsal filled with disarray rather than artistic refinement. Ultimately, the play delivered a powerful message on the importance of dedication, discipline, and collective effort in the pursuit of meaningful artistic expression.
The production featured Kananpreet Kaur, Kartik Kumar, Vandana Thakur, Supria Gorka, Priyal Ashok Gupta, Mehak Chib, and Palshin Dutta in key roles. Neeraj Kant managed the lighting, while Aryan Sharma handled the presentations. The show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
