Jammu May 24: Promising young Natrang artist Supria Gorka brought laurels to the Jammu and Kashmir by winning the National Scholarship Award in the field of Theatre acting.
This award of National scholarship has been instituted by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Supria is the only artist from J&K in all the categories of this competition to win this prestigious National Award. Supria was introduced to theatre by Balwant Thakur through a professional theatre training process with his play ‘Rang Badalti Duniya’ and later she was given the opportunity by Natrang to performed in the play ‘The Wizard of OZ’, ‘Parampara’, and ‘Rehearsal’ under the direction of Neeraj Kant.
Director of Natrang, Padamashiri Balwant Thakur complimented both Kesar Parveen and Sham Lal Gorka, the mother and father of Supria Gorka for bringing pride and honour not only for Natrang but for the entire Jammu and Kashmir. Terming this very big for the reason that only one artist from the entire J&K could make it to that. This accomplishment of hers will inspire many young artists of the region to achieve and excel in this field. Balwant Thakur further said that Natrang has played a very crucial role in introducing the art of theatre amongst youth through its various innovative initiatives and programmes. On the occasion he also complimented Sumeet Sharma the head of Children wing of Natrang for holding regular theatre workshops and training programmes and maintaining the tradition of regular children theatre in Jammu. The National Award to Supria is the result of such dedicated efforts and initiatives of Natrang. Under this award of National Scholarship, Supria will undergo intense theatre training under Balwant Thakur till she attains the age of 20.
