Katra, Feb 25: The two-day National Workshop on the Importance of Industrial Safety, organised under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), successfully concluded today at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU).
The workshop, coordinated by Dr. Sanjeev Anand, along with co-coordinators Dr. Yatheshth Anand and Dr. Vineet V. Tyagi, brought together leading experts from various industrial sectors to discuss crucial safety measures and risk management strategies. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pragati Kumar lauded the initiative, emphasising its role in bridging the gap between academia and industry by equipping students with practical knowledge of industrial safety standards.
Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and Chairman, PM-USHA at SMVDU, highlighted the importance of safety awareness in minimising workplace hazards and fostering a culture of prevention. Dr. Atin Kumar Pathak (India Head, Climate Change and Sustainability, RINA) provided insights into how classification bodies evaluate safety standards before issuing necessary certifications. Er. Amit Sharma (DGM, Mechanical, JKPDC) discussed safety in power generation, showcasing safety drills conducted at hydroelectric power plants. Er. Vikrant Chib (Consultant and Assistant Engineer, JPDCL) elaborated on electrical safety protocols, stressing their role in ensuring a safe and reliable power supply. Gaurav Singh (EHS Manager, Berger India Limited) shared best practices for workplace environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance. Er. Ankush Kotwal (IT and Planning Expert, Berger India Limited) discussed technological advancements in industrial safety planning. Manish Kumar (Associate Director, Care Analytics and Advisory Pvt. Ltd.), joining online, offered valuable insights into data-driven approaches for industrial safety and risk assessment. A live demonstration of firefighting equipment was conducted by a team from Fire Station Kakryal, under the guidance of Er. Sarvesh Langer, Assistant Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Reasi.
