Jammu, Aug 26: The fervor of sports enthusiasts in Jammu and Kashmir reached new heights today as the District Udhampur Squash Championship 2023 was inaugurated amidst great enthusiasm. The championship, a part of the National Sports Week Sports Activities Programme, was initiated by Vishal Modi, a distinguished squash player hailing from the region. The grand opening ceremony took place on August 26 at the K.C. Sports Club in Jammu.
Organized by the District Udhampur Squash Rackets Association and supported by the J&K Squash Rackets Association, the championship has garnered significant attention and is being sponsored by the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
Vishal Modi, the esteemed chief guest of the opening ceremony, conveyed his heartfelt encouragement to the participating players from District Udhampur. He assured them of an environment where every possible facility would be extended to enhance their performance. Modi emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir government is profoundly committed to promoting sports and games across every nook and corner of the region. He praised the dedicated efforts of Ms. Nuzhat Gul, the Secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, in providing a remarkable platform for athletes in the region.
Sohit Modi, Vice President of the J&K Squash Rackets Association, and Vikas also graced the occasion as honored guests. Their presence added to the prestige of the event and underscored the significance of promoting sports in the area.
The championship has attracted players competing in various categories, including U-15 Boys & Girls, U-17 Boys & Girls, U-19 Girls, and Senior Men. The ongoing matches are being hosted at the K.C. Sports Club in Jammu, with the full support and active involvement of the J&K Sports Council to ensure the resounding success of the tournament.
In a riveting display of skill and sportsmanship, 14 matches were played in the Boys’ section and 12 in the Girls’ section across U-15, U-17, and U-19 categories in both divisions, along with the Senior Men’s category.
