Kathua, Aug 29: Govt. Degree College for Women, Kathua today on Tuesday organized two events viz. Badminton Match and Tug of war to observe the joyous celebration of athleticism, teamwork and spirit of sportsmanship on the eve of “The National Sports Day”.
The National Sports Day is celebrated every year on 29th of August to commemorate Birth Anniversary of Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand, who won gold medal in Olympics for India in the years 1928, 1932 & 1936. A large number of students of the college participated in the competition.
The programme was organized by NSS Unit in collaboration with Deptt. Of Sports of GDCW, Kathua. The entire programme was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Savi Behl, Principal of the college, Dr. Arun Dev Singh, NSS Programme officer and Roshan Lal PTI.
The event started with Fit India Pledge where the students and staff of the college vowed to focus on their physical fitness on daily basis.
Dr. Savi Behl, worthy Principal of the college declared the event open and flipped the coin for toss for the Badminton match. A total of four teams participated in the match namely, Rani Laxmi Bai team, Sarojini Naidu Team, Subadhra Kumari Chauhan Team and Aruna Asif Ali Team. The thrilling event was won by Rani Laxmi Bai Team. The Tug of war event kept the spectators guessing for the winning team till the last moment. The event concludes after three rounds and the Subhdra Kumari Chauhan team won the match.
Both the events were officiated by technical panel from Department Of Youth Service and Sports which comprised of Sajnay Gupta (P.E.M.) and Swarn Singh (P.E.M.)
