Patna, Feb 11: Keeping Union Territory’s Flag high at the national scene, the Fencers of Jammu and Kashmir bagged Individual Gold and Team Silver in the Sabre event of the 68th National School Games U-19 Fencing Championship, being held under the auspices of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Patna in Bihar on Tuesday.
Fencer Dhananjay Pandit of Jammu and Kashmir clinched individual Gold in Sabre event, while the trio of Rampaul, Dhananjay Pandit and Amish Sharma claimed the Sabre Team Silver medal in this Championship.
The Fencers are being accompanied by Joginder Sharma and Tony Matoo as the Manager and the Coach respectively. The Commissioner Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez and the Director General Youth Services and Sports, Rajinder Singh Tara congratulated the ace Fencers and their Supporting Staff for this achievement.
They said J&K athletes have blossomed in the 68th National School Games this season and have bagged a good haul of medals, adding that they were hopeful to bag a record haul of medals in 68th National School Games. “The Department of Youth Services and Sports is committed to promote sports culture and raise sports infra in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. The DYSS will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling the promise of the Government with regard to making the Union Territory a sporting hub,” they added
