He said that road safety is not only an individual responsibility but a collective as well “The issues like rash driving, use of mobile phone during driving,  considering seat belt as a burden, unmindful use of beams during night can only be set right by behavioral changes and positive attitude,” he said.
Muazzam said mindful and responsive driving leads to peace and creates a capital of values and  fraternity in society.
He said that MVD department has embarked on a mission mode  to have a paradigm shift in driving sense among the commuters in the district besides creating good governance practices in the J&K, UT.
Earlier, a team led by him checked vehicles for mandatory fixing of Retro Reflective Tapes, which help in making the vehicles visible and reduce accidents at night.
Dozens of vehicles were checked and asked to fix the Tapes and drivers counselled to fix the same on their vehicles in order to avert losses occurring due to night travel  collisions.
Various drivers were on spot provided these Retro Tapes, free of cost by the department and affixed on their vehicles.
Besides, road users were appealed  by the team  to adhere to measures which are mandatory in making safe travels and asked to  exhibit optimum driving behaviours in order to avert losses to life and vehicles.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is observing the Road Safety Week from January 11 to 17, under “Swachhata Pakhwada”, to propagate the cause of safer roads for all.
