Anantnag, May 11: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said it has intensified its anti-narcotics crackdown in Anantnag district under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan,” registering 120 NDPS cases and arresting 118 alleged drug peddlers during the past one month.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police Amod Nagpure said the 100-day anti-drug campaign launched on April 11 under the directions of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has received strong public support across the district.
He said police recovered over 300 kilograms of contraband substances during multiple operations and attached 14 properties worth more than ₹10 crore linked to drug trafficking under relevant legal provisions.
According to the SSP, two illegally constructed properties worth around ₹3.5 crore built on encroached government land by drug peddlers were also demolished during the drive.
Nagpure said police destroyed illegal poppy cultivation spread over 300 kanals of land and disposed of 1,084 kilograms of seized narcotics through legal procedures.
He further said Anantnag Police has initiated proceedings under Section 52A of the NDPS Act for auctioning vehicles seized in drug-related cases, describing it as the first such initiative by J&K Police.
The SSP said around 80 narcotics hotspots were raided and 119 suspected drug peddlers were taken into preventive detention during the month-long campaign.
He added that security clearances for passports, jobs and other official purposes would not be granted to persons involved in narcotics cases.
Nagpure said the campaign has witnessed active public participation, with police receiving over 500 calls on anti-drug helpline numbers shared by the department.
Reaffirming the department’s commitment towards a drug-free society, he said sustained action against drug trafficking networks would continue across the district.
