Shopian, Dec 08: Thirty specially-abled persons from Shopian completed a one-month on-site skill training programme in tailoring at Zainpora here as part of the NABARD Skill Development scheme. The training was imparted by the Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) Shopian.
An official said the valediction ceremony took place at RSETI Shopian, where the District Development Manager (DDM) NABARD, Rouf Zargar, was the chief guest. Attendees included Lead District Manager Farooq Ahmad, Director RSETI Nazir Ahmad, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer (TSWO) Farhana Tak, and President of the Handicapped Association Shopian.
Rouf Zargar, DDM NABARD, said that NABARD sanctioned several Skill Development Programs to professional skill agencies and RSETIs across the UT. However, it was for the first time that a course was sanctioned exclusively for specially-abled candidates of Shopian.
“The financial assistance provided aims to enhance rural youth’s skills, offering them opportunities for livelihood through setting up their own ventures or securing wage employment. The tailored course for specially-abled individuals was designed to provide them with sustainable livelihood opportunities,” he said.
Director RSETI praised the candidates for completing the course and assured them of continuous support from RSETI. “The candidates should recognize the significance of applying the skills they’ve acquired, and we guarantee financial support from banks, specifically aimed at empowering the more vulnerable sections of society,” he said.
Farhana Tak, TSWO, briefed about various schemes available through the Social Welfare Department for specially-abled individuals, ensuring the department’s commitment to providing these groups with the benefits of those schemes
The candidates received mementoes and course completion certificates as tokens of appreciation from the officers.
