The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kulgam on Monday conducted an enforcement drive in the district in which numerous vehicles were towed and others were blacklisted.

Earlier the MVD department launched an intensive drive against the erring drivers and in this regard vehicles such as autos, two-wheelers, and other commercial vehicles are being challaned for violation of traffic rules in the district.

The poor parking of vehicles within the town causes congestion and leads to inconvenience, which is being checked.

An official from MVD told Rising Kashmir that the department has collected fines under the “enforcement drive” and the wrongly parked vehicles were fined 1000 each on the first day of the drive.

“We collected 6000 as a fine today besides blacklisting seven vehicles,” Abrar Ahmad, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kulgam said.

He said that the vehicles which were blacklisted for violation of traffic rules are; JK02AE7597, JK03C3410, JK185166, JK18B3323, JK03B1306, JK03A1676, JK182096.

He reiterated that the wrongly parked vehicles will face action and will be seized under the motor vehicle act.

“This was the first phase of the drive and the department will ensure that such vehicles plying in the whole district follow the traffic rules in letter and spirit. Violators will be dealt with strictly”, he said.

Officials said that a squad of MVD Kulgam led by ARTO and other officials are continuously monitoring and ensuring the normal traffic flow in the town.
