Srinagar, July 14: In an enforcement drive against traffic violations, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kishtwar has taken stern action to ensure road safety and compliance with transport norms, collecting fines of over Rs 9.65 lakh and blacklisting 51 vehicles over the past month.According to Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kishtwar, Tasleem Wani, the department, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma and as per the directions of the Transport Commissioner J&K, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, has intensified action to ensure road safety and strict adherence to transport regulations.ARTO Kishtwar said that between June 1st and mid-July 2025, the department suspended the route permits of four vehicles (JK17-3055, JK17B-0184, JK17-5315, JK17-7664) for a period of three months under Section 86(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. “We have also suspended nine driving licences under Sections 19(1)(d) & (f); seized 31 vehicles; blacklisted 51 vehicles; issued 230 e-challans; and collected fines amounting to ₹9.65 lakh,” he said.ARTO Kishtwar further added that the violators were penalised for a range of serious offences including habitual violations, overloading, dangerous driving, performing stunts, operating vehicles without Speed Limiting Devices, and using unfit vehicles.“The drivers involved in these violations pose a serious threat to passenger safety. This operation should serve as a wake-up call not just for them, but for all motorists who disregard traffic laws,” said the ARTO.
