Multiple vehicle collision on Kupwara – Sopore road leaves nine injured

Nine passengers sustained injuries after multiple vehicles collided on the Kupwara – Sopore road near Tutigund, Handwara on Tuesday afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses, several vehicles, including a bus, were involved in the accident, resulting in injuries to several people. Shortly after the accident, a major rescue operation was launched by the Handwara police and local residents.

People who were trapped in these vehicles were safely rescued and shifted to the hospital by SHO Handwara and the in-charge of the Police Post in Chogal. The individuals injured in the accident have been identified as Abdullah Malik, Maqsood Ahmad Mir, Zareefa Begum, Yasir Majeed Sheikh, Faizan, Waheeda Begum, Rukaiya Rasool, Mehvish Jan, and Fancy.

A video circulating on social media also shows Handwara journalist Sharafat Manzoor participating in the rescue operation and assisting people stuck on the bus. People online have praised the journalist’s efforts.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nisar Wani, the Medical Superintendent of the Associated Hospital GMC Handwara, stated that they received nine patients, with one of them being referred to SMHS Hospital and a few others sent to Bone and Joint Hospital Srinagar for advanced treatment.

He mentioned that all the injured individuals are in stable condition, and some have been moved to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.

Additionally, a police officer confirmed the accident to Rising Kashmir and noted that four vehicles, including a bus, were involved. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the law, and an investigation is underway
