Srinagar, Aug 27: Advocate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, son of the renowned religious cleric Aga Syed Hassan, officially joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday.
The event was held in Budgam’s main town and was attended by PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, who warmly welcomed Aga Muntazir into the party.
Muntazir is a prominent figure in the Budgam district and a member of the influential Aga family. His father is the president of the Anjuman Sharie Shian, a prominent Shia organisation in the valley.
In his address at the event, Aga said his decision to enter politics is not driven by a desire for power but by a commitment to advocate for the marginalised voices of the youth in his community.
“I am here not for a position of power but to raise the marginalised voice of the youth. I look forward to working towards the constitutional protection and civic rights of my constituency,” he said.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti expressed her confidence in Aga Muntazir’s ability to contribute meaningfully to the party’s mission of advocating for the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
“Aga Muntazir’s unwavering commitment to the people, particularly the youth, aligns perfectly with our party’s vision. His experience and dedication will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts in addressing the aspirations of the people,” Mehbooba said, welcoming him into the party.
