MRCFC Khudwani distributes wheat seed, vermicompost under TSP programme

Anantnag, Nov 10: Mountain Research Center for Field Crops (MRCFC)- Khudwani distributed university-developed variety Shalimar Wheat 2 and vermicompost among 35 tribal farmers of Kulgam and Anantnag districts on Thursdayunder Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP). 
The programme is sponsored by Indian institute of Wheat & Barley Research, Karnal and aims at the socio-economic upliftment of the tribal people. On this occasion Prof. N.R. Sofi, Associate Director Research – Khudwani, Prof. N.A. Dar, ADR- HQ and scientists of MRCFC- Khudwani were present. Speaking at the event, Professor Najeeb-Ul-Rehman Sofi stressed on the importance of quality seeds and other inputs in profitable crop production. 
He impressed upon the farmers to adopt modern scientific approaches to ensure sustainability & profitability in the farming sector. Prof. N.A. Dar discussed in detail the importance of soil health sustainability.
Organic matter plays a pivotal role in soil health maintenance. A healthy soil provides a strong foundation for higher and consistent crop yields, resilience to environmental stresses and long-term profitability, Prof. Dar remarked. He further informed the farmers about common diseases & pests of important crops grown in tribal areas of Kashmir valley & their eco-friendly control measures. Dr N. A Teeli thanked the tribal farmers for participating in the event & advised them to follow the SKUAST-K advisories & recommendations in letter & spirit.
