Ganderbal, Aug 21: Mian Mehar Ali, son of the newly elected Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmed, is emerging as a strong contender to represent the National Conference (NC) in the upcoming Assembly elections from the Kangan constituency.
Top sources told Rising Kashmir that Mian Mehar, who has been actively involved in politics, is likely to be fielded as the NC candidate. His father, Mian Altaf, who recently secured his first term as an MP, is a seasoned politician with a distinguished record, having served five terms as an MLA from Kangan and held the position of Cabinet Minister three times.
The NC is expected to announce its candidates for the Kangan and Ganderbal constituencies soon, with Mehar viewed as a strong choice for Kangan.
The upcoming assembly elections will be the first in Jammu and Kashmir in a decade, as the last polls were held in 2014.
